VCV Rack Modules

Our drum machines, as modules. Patch them into anything.

9A9, 8A8, 6A6 and CA-78 run inside VCV Rack, each with a step sequencer, a CV expander and a MOD expander. A trigger input and an output for every voice.

The instrument. Voice tiles, the selected voice's editor, delay, reverb and master with a CV jack under each knob. Clock, reset, run and accent in; mix and an 11-channel poly out.

TR-808 style. 16 circuit-modelled voices, each with its own trigger input and individual output. Poly cables carry the voices in this order: BD SD LT MT HT LC MC HC RS CL MA CP CB CH OH CY.

The instrument. Sixteen voice tiles, the selected voice's editor with drive type, delay, reverb and master. Clock, reset, run and accent in; mix and a 16-channel poly out.

CA-78 in the rack

CR-78 style. 14 circuit-modelled voices and the machine's preset rhythms, each voice with its own trigger input and individual output. Poly cables carry the voices in this order: BD SD RS HH CY MA CL HB LB LC CB TB GU MB.

CA-7864 HP
The instrument. Fourteen voice traces, the selected voice's editor with drive type, the preset rhythm caps with the A/B lever and PLAY, delay, reverb and master. Clock, reset, run and accent in; mix L and R and a 14-channel poly out.
CA-78 SEQ30 HP
The 14-lane step sequencer with four pages, swing and the pattern generator.
CA-78 CV40 HP
A CV input for every voice control, voice by voice.
CA-78 MOD12 HP
Six CV slots. Press LEARN, then turn any CA-78 knob.
CA-78 MIX25 HP
A mixer for the kit: level, pan and mute for every voice, a master level and a stereo out.

Good to know

  • One plugin

    All the modules come in one plugin, Altered Labs. Add it once and every drum machine is in your module browser.

  • Expanders

    Place SEQ, CV and MOD (and MIX, for CA-78) to the right of their drum machine, in any order. They pair on their own.

  • Poly cables

    VEL, TUNE, DECAY, LEVEL, DRIVE, REV and DLY take one value per voice on a single poly cable. The poly out carries every voice.

  • Individual outs

    Patch a voice's own output and it leaves the mix, ready for your own effects.

  • CV range

    10 V sweeps a knob from end to end.

  • Same engines

    Each module runs on the same engine as the plug-in and app of the same name.

Where do I get them?

From the VCV Library. The link goes here as soon as they are listed.

Do I need the plug-in version too?

No. The Rack modules run on their own inside VCV Rack.

Do the expanders work without the drum machine?

No. SEQ, CV, MOD and MIX sit to the right of their drum machine and control it.
